The Worship of

God as the Goal,

the Motivation

and the Means of

Missions

In the last decade we hear and talk more about praise and worshiping God, but not many people do not really understand and practice worship. We have quite a few of books about worship here in Germany and many more in English, but more people should read them. Even less books are dealing with the relation of worship and missions. In my doctoral project in the Doctor of Ministry Program at Trinity International University, Deerfield, Chicago, I researched, studied and wrote about „The Worship of God as the Goal, the Motivation and the Means of Missions“. If you are interested in this subject, please download my paper and study it with prayer. It will be a great blessing for you and your ministry. The title of my paper is „The worship of God as the goal, the motivation and the means of missions“. http://bit.ly/TheWorshipOfGod You are welcome to contact me by e-mail too. Doing Greater

Works than

Jesus?

Jesus says: Yes I ensure you: Who trusts me and believes in me, will also do such deeds, yes even greater ones. Because I go to the Father (John 14, 12).   What great works could Jesus do through you in three years?   Seen statistically, Jesus reached through some of His followers more people then during His time in Israel. Here are some of them: Let us think of Billy Graham. He preached to 1.000.000 people in South Korea on an airfield. He organized conferences with thousands of participants  to train them in leadership and missions. Jesus did not preach to such great numbers of people during his time.   Here are 4 more examples how Jesus probably reaches more people today with His Gospel, than during His life here on earth.

Bill Hybels

He was the pastor of a church with 26.000 worshipers in a week. He organizes training for Christian leaders with 1000 participating through the Willow Creek Association. 13000 churches are members of this.

Joel Osteen

Is pastor of what probably is the biggest church in America, in Houston, Texas, with 52000 visitors a week.

Rick Warren

Is pastor of the Saddleback church with about 20000 people in the weakly worship meetings. 1980 only 40 people participated. A big growth. Saddleback founded several churches. Rick Warrens teaching finds world wide interest.

Robert Morris

Is senior pastor of the Gateway- church in Fort Worth, Texas, with 30000 participants in their worship service in the year 2000. A terrific growth. This is the fastest growing church in North America. (Lakewood church was not listed, because they did not participate in the research.)   Statistically these churches have done greater works than Jesus. But of course you and I know that what these churches and their pastors have done, they did with the help and guidance of Jesus and the Holy Spirit in them. The Holy Spirit uses us human beings. What plans does He have with you and me? In only 3 years Jesus did great and wonderful things. What could he do through you and your church in 3 years?

The Goal of

this Website

Dear reader, As written above the title of this web site is prayer-, worship and mission revival. I could also talk about the revival of love, because (Agape-) love covers these areas. I want to help to facilitate the love for Jesus, to ourselves and to the people around us and in that way also prayer, worship of God and world mission. Sure, the Holy Spirit does the essential, but he wants us to work together with Him As a missionary, together with my wife in Taiwan and Thailand I bring some experience with me. At the same time I am a learner in all these areas. May Jesus bless us all richly and also those we serve in His name. HIGH LEVEL LIFE AND MISSIONS John Piper has written an inspiring book on missions with the name "Let the nations be glad. The supremacy of God in missions. Baker books. 1993. 8th printing, 1997".  A remarkable and challenging statement of him we find in the first two sentences in the first chapter:   "Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church, Worship is." It is true, world mission according to the Bible is a goal of God (Acts 1, 8). The Good News about Jesus needs to be spread to the ends of the earth. This task was given to us a long time ago and Jesus Himself empowers us to complete it. But is doing missions the highest goal and motivation of the church? What is the integrating principle of our Christian life and mission? It is the love, worship and the praise of God. John Piper quotes Psalm 67: 3-4:

"Let the people praise thee, O

God; let all the people praise

thee. O let the nations be glad

and sing for joy: for thou shalt

judge the people righteously, and

govern the nations upon earth."

Probably hundreds of Bible verses  could be quoted that talk about the worship and praise of God. Mission is about God, is about his plan of salvation, is about worship and worshipers. Of course, mission is about the love of God for us human beings and for our own benefit too. But God comes first. God is supreme in everything. Why is this sentence challenging? Because often we do not live according to the highest goals of life, missions or evangelism, which is worship and this lack affects missions in negative way. Why then is the progress of world evangelism so slow, even in and through American or German churches?. One important reason is the lack of true worship. Are you ready to change for the better? We read that the goal of the church is the worship of God.  John Piper has another challenging sentence in the first chapter of his book for us. Mission is, because worship is not This sentence is in line with his 2 sentences above. If the goal of the church is worship then we do missions in order to multiply worshipers of God. When my students of the Bachelor program at the Phayao Bible Seminary in Thailand read the above sentence from John Piper, most of them did not understand it right away. I do not know how it is with you.  Maybe my students did not understand Piper's sentence because the translation of his book into Thai was not so clear. Anyway, I believe this sentence holds a fundamental discovery that waits to be realized in our lives. With this sentence Piper wants to say that the higher goal of missions is that more people worship God, who worship God the Father in Jesus Name in Spirit and in Truth. It is not only about having more believers but about having more worshipers of Jesus. The majority of Thai people are Buddhists. They too do not yet worship Jesus. The majority of people in South Thailand are Muslim who do not yet worship Jesus. In Germany, in our world, it does not look much different. And that is why we have missions. Churches throughout the mission fields, or even in America or here in Germany often reflect a weak interest in evangelism and missions, which is probably a reflection of the understanding of missions of their founders, leaders and pastors. The question arises are we ourselves, the initiators of missions true worshipers? God the Father is looking for such people. Please see John 4; 23-24:

"23 But the hour cometh, and

now is, when the true

worshippers shall worship the

Father in spirit and in truth: for

the Father seeketh such to

worship him.

24 God is a Spirit: and they that

worship him must worship him in

spirit and in truth."

I would add: „Is this reason not understood and lived then that will have negative consequences for the World Mission and Evangelization. Why? We will miss the goal of missions which is worship. If you think that you need more understanding of this subject of worship and missions then check out some books, like Piper's. My Doctor of Ministry research paper  helps a little bit too. Please see link below. With what I‘ve written so far I want to show the reason for the weak worship of Jesus, weak in the personal and also in the church life. Because our worship of Jesus is weak, our relationship with Jesus is also weak, and weak is the spiritual dynamic of our lives. Life goal and mission goal are not high enough and so the influence of mission is weak too. The dignity of God asks for the highest from us, for our worshiping Him with our whole being, both in our personal lives and in our involvement in Mission and Evangelism.
